Lene Lovich - nascida em Detroit (EUA) - mudou-se para Inglaterra no final dos anos 60. Começou a criar música, na era da New Wave, lançando o seu primeiro trabalho em 1976, mas o sucesso apenas surgiu com o single "Lucky Number" em 1978. Juntamente com o guitarrista / compositor Les Chappell, com quem se veio a casar, amarrou os cabelos em tranças - o que se tornou a sua imagem de marca - embora a ideia inicial fosse. apenas e só, manter o cabelo longe do barro nas aulas de arte/escultura que também frequentava
