Tokio Hotel é uma banda alemã fundada em Magdeburgo, em 2001, pela vocalista Bill Kaulitz, o guitarrista Tom Kaulitz, o baixista Georg Listing e o baterista Gustav Schäfer.
O quarteto já vendeu mais de 8 milhões de CDs e DVDs. Depois de gravar um CD-demo (demonstrativo) com inéditos sob o nome de "Devilish" e ter visto o seu contrato rescindido com a Sony BMG, a banda liberou o seu primeiro álbum em língua alemã, "Schrei", como Tokio Hotel para a Island Records, em 2005. "Schrei" vendeu mais de 1,5 milhão de cópias mundialmente e colocou vários singlesnos tops da Alemanha e Áustria.
Em 2007, a banda lançou o seu segundo álbum "Zimmer 483", o seu primeiro álbum em inglês, "Scream", que alcançaram vendas de mais de um milhão de cópias em todo o mundo, o que ajudou a banda a ganhar o seu primeiro MTV Europe Music Award para "Best Interact". O antigo, "Zimmer 483", gerou três singles top cinco na Alemanha, enquanto "Scream", gerou dois singles que atingiram o top vinte em novos territórios, como Portugal, Espanha e Itália.
Em Setembro de 2008, ganharam o seu primeiro MTV Video Music Award para Best New Artist. Também ganharam o prémio headliner no MTV Europe Music Awards 2008, realizada em Liverpool, a 6 de Novembro de 2008.
A banda Tokio Hotel foi fundada pelo vocalista Bill Kaulitz e o guitarrista Tom Kaulitz, que são gémeos idênticos, baterista Gustav Schäfer e o baixista Georg Listing. O quarteto reuniu-se em 2001, após um show num clube Magdeburg, onde Listing e Schäfer, que conheciam cada música a partir de outras escolas, assistiam na plateia, enquanto Bill e Tom Kaulitz cantavam no palco. Sob o nome Devilish, a banda logo começou a tocar em pequenos shows e concursos de talentos. Logo em seguida, Bill Kaulitz inscreveu-se num concurso de música para crianças de até 15 anos, Star Search, em 2003, afim de divulgarem a sua banda. O grupo chegou aos oitavos de final, mas acabou perdendo para um cantor de Rap. Depois da aparição na TV Alemã, Bill Kaulitz foi descoberto pelo produtor musical Peter Hoffmann, e então Devilish mudou o seu nome para Tokio Hotel. "Tokio", a ortografia alemã da cidade japonesa Tóquio, foi escolhido para ser o nome da banda devido a um amor à cidade, e "Hotel", devido às suas constantes tournées e estadias em hotéis. No entanto, pouco antes do lançamento do seu primeiro álbum, a Sony cancelou o seu contrato com a banda.
No entanto, em 2005, a Universal Music Group resolveu fazer um contrato com os rapazes e continua com eles até hoje.
